Lights, Camera, Marketing! How Owens Students Bring Big Ideas to Life

At Owens Community College, the Marketing Program isn’t just about textbooks and lectures—it’s about diving headfirst into real-world, hands-on projects that spark creativity and give students experiences they’ll remember. From podcasts to commercials, blogs, and social media campaigns, students explore marketing in ways that are both fun and meaningful. 

Podcasts – Bringing Stories to Life 

One of the most exciting projects in the program is creating podcasts. In our first podcast, we had the incredible opportunity to interview the Dean of the Business Department, hearing valuable insights directly from leadership. It was a professional yet engaging experience that strengthened our interviewing and storytelling skills. For our second podcast, we took a more personal approach—interviewing each other. This allowed us to practice connection, communication, and active listening while spotlighting the unique personalities within our classroom. At Owens, podcasts aren’t just assignments—they’re opportunities to share ideas and build confidence as communicators. Commercials and Creative Projects 

Creativity is at the heart of every marketing class at Owens. From producing our own commercials to developing blogs, e-books, and even avatars, we get to see our ideas come to life. These projects go far beyond theory, helping us learn about branding, digital storytelling, and design in a hands-on environment. Every assignment is a chance to innovate and experiment—just like in the real marketing world. 

Running Our Own Social Media Accounts 

One of the most rewarding experiences is running our own social media accounts, like TikTok, where we post fun, behind-the-scenes content about the marketing department. It’s an exciting blend of creativity and strategy—understanding trends, engaging audiences, and tracking performance to see what works. This experience gives us a real taste of what it’s like to manage a brand online and develop an authentic voice that connects with people. 

Why It Matters 

What makes the Owens Marketing Program stand out is the creative freedom it offers. Instead of just following strict guidelines, we’re encouraged to brainstorm, collaborate, and bring our own ideas to life. These experiences don’t just prepare us for exams—they prepare us for careers in marketing, giving us real-world skills like content creation, campaign planning, and digital communication. 

At Owens, learning isn’t confined to the classroom—it’s alive, creative, and full of opportunity. The Marketing Program empowers students to think big, take risks, and discover what it truly means to connect with an audience.
